When it comes to debates it rather difficult to discern the outcome, especially when both candidates rush to proclaim a victory.
While I personally think that Trump under performed, and that Hillary acted like the elitist she is, I still think it was a tie, with a slight edge to Trump.
I say this because, I feel that by Trump avoiding any major gaffes or outbursts he was able to prove to the american people he is not "unhinged".
Did Lester give Trump a fair shake?
Yes, once tag team Clinton began their attacks on Trump, he seemed on edge, but hey, so would anyone if they were attacked (not on the issues but) personally in front of one third of America.
Nevertheless, Trump was clearly a fighter, and as AVO and I reflected and agreed post debate, Trump was clearly able to control the room when he had the mic.
The issue however, was that when he had the mic, he did not go after Hillary's record enough, nor when he did, did he do so hard enough.
However, with all that said, I refer to Newet Gingrich on Fox News last night, who felt that for Trump the night was a success, According to Newet, "the entire Clinton case [against Trump] is that he is incapable of being president, [yet that] died somewhere on that stage."
Personally, I think this is because Trump showed - at least on camera - that he genuinely cares about the American people and wants to make America great again - and the American people are buying it.
And lo and behold, the NY Post reported How Trump won over a bar full of undecideds and Democrats because "By the end of the debate, Clinton never said a thing to persuade me that she had anything to offer me or my family or my community", according to the democrat viewers, all she did was come across as either smug or as though she was reading her résumé". One viewer chimed in, “I am a small businessman, a farmer, come from a long line of farmers and coal miners. The policies she talked about tonight ultimately either hurt me or ignore me,”. In other words, Hillary came across robotic and scripted, but Trump failed to exploit it.
Bottom line: Trump can be credited with some good comebacks, and an adequate performance, but at the end of the day, he failed to hit Hillary where it hurts and have that elusive K/O moment.
Even Bill was loosing it, at some points
In any event, one can not get a good picture of public opinion without referring to post debate polls, and the reactions from people on social media. and so here they are:
One would think the polls speak for themselves, however the main stream media is already rushing to say that its nothing but a farce. According to Time,
"Online reader polls like this one are not statistically representative of likely voters, and are not predictive of the debate outcome will effect the election. They are a measure, however imprecise, of which candidates have the most energized online supporters, or most social media savvy fan base. After all, what they are counting is the number of Internet-devices controlled by people who want to vote".
Personally, I think that its classic MSM talking point, but as the reader you have to decide that...
In any event but one thing is certain, if all these polls do is reflect which candidates have the most energized group of online supporters, then clearly Clinton does not have an energized base, and I am very curious if this will actually be reflected as such come November.
In the mean time I am looking to the next debate on Oct. 4 th, where Pence and Kane will be exchanging ideas at Longwood University, Farmville, VA
