Over the weekend, Ted Cruz has finally found and announced, both personally as well as on his facebook page, that as a conservative and a republican, he was going to vote for Trump - and therefore, if you are are a conservative, a republican, or both, you should do so as well.
In case you missed it, here is the transcript:
"This election is unlike any other in our nation’s history. Like many other voters, I have struggled to determine the right course of action in this general election.
After many months of careful consideration, of prayer and searching my own conscience, I have decided that on Election Day, I will vote for the Republican nominee, Donald rump.
I’ve made this decision for two reasons. First, last year, I promised to support the Republican nominee. And I intend to keep my word.
Second, even though I have had areas of significant disagreement with our nominee, by any measure Hillary Clinton is wholly unacceptable — that’s why I have always been #NeverHillary.
Six key policy differences inform my decision. First, and most important, the Supreme Court. For anyone concerned about the Bill of Rights — free speech, religious liberty, the Second Amendment — the Court hangs in the balance. I have spent my professional career fighting before the Court to defend the Constitution. We are only one justice away from losing our most basic rights, and the next president will appoint as many as four new justices. We know, without a doubt, that every Clinton appointee would be a left-wing ideologue. Trump, in contrast, has promised to appoint justices “in the mold of Scalia.”
For some time, I have been seeking greater specificity on this issue, and today the Trump campaign provided that, releasing a very strong list of potential Supreme Court nominees — including Sen. Mike Lee, who would make an extraordinary justice — and making an explicit commitment to nominate only from that list. This commitment matters, and it provides a serious reason for voters to choose to support Trump.
Second, Obamacare. The failed healthcare law is hurting millions of Americans. If Republicans hold Congress, leadership has committed to passing legislation repealing Obamacare. Clinton, we know beyond a shadow of doubt, would veto that legislation. Trump has said he would sign it.
Third, energy. Clinton would continue the Obama administration’s war on coal and relentless efforts to crush the oil and gas industry. Trump has said he will reduce regulations and allow the blossoming American energy renaissance to create millions of new high-paying jobs.
Fourth, immigration. Clinton would continue and even expand President Obama’s lawless executive amnesty. Trump has promised that he would revoke those illegal executive orders.
Fifth, national security. Clinton would continue the Obama administration’s willful blindness to radical Islamic terrorism. She would continue importing Middle Eastern refugees whom the FBI cannot vet to make sure they are not terrorists. Trump has promised to stop the deluge of unvetted refugees.
Sixth, Internet freedom. Clinton supports Obama’s plan to hand over control of the Internet to an international community of stakeholders, including Russia, China, and Iran. Just this week, Trump came out strongly against that plan, and in support of free speech online.
These are six vital issues where the candidates’ positions present a clear choice for the American people.
If Clinton wins, we know — with 100% certainty — that she would deliver on her left-wing promises, with devastating results for our country.
Our country is in crisis. Hillary Clinton is manifestly unfit to be president, and her policies would harm millions of Americans. And Donald Trump is the only thing standing in her way.
A year ago, I pledged to endorse the Republican nominee, and I am honoring that commitment. And if you don’t want to see a Hillary Clinton presidency, I encourage you to vote for him"
So there you have it.
I am not gonna lie, I did not think this was going to happen. But if there was one thing this election taught me, always expect the unexpected.
I never had anything against Cruz, he did bother me much, he was not my first choice, but I respected him nevertheless. Yet when my choice won fair and square I expected him to keep to his words.
As everyone knows, things did not work out a planned, and Cruz, took the term "taking it personal "to a whole new level with his behavior at the RNC convention...
Let's face it, it was in bad taste. Nevertheless, I am not one to hold grudges, and I welcome the endorsement, and the Trump campaign response - which was classy and respectfull.
Indeed, enough with the banter, we need to save this country, and bringing about unity in the conservative/ republican base is the right thing to do.
Let's face it, with reports claiming that 20 percent of republicans are still unsure of who they will vote for (vs the 19 percent of Democrat holdouts for Hillary ), Trump needs all the republican base support he can get, and then some, to win this election.
This move by Cruz, also helps Cruzes secure his position as a relevant member of the party, as a Trump win will both assist him in his future aspirations in the senate, and beyond - which as a true friend of Israel and a brilliant lawmen is a good thing.
Yet clearly were not all there yet....
Despite the Cruze endorsement, many #NeverTrumpers, continue to hold out as they are overwhelmed by the details, activly looking to undermine Trumps advances in both local and national polls (Trump currently leads by four points).
One such example is conservative pundit and Weekly Standard editor, William "Billy" Kristol. Who in an attempt to stay relevant, continues to by grovel at the feat of the left-wing MSM, esposing his #NeverTrump agenda.
In an interview with MSNBC's Stephanie Ruhle, Kristol claimed that "if he has a heart", Donald Trump "knows deep in his heart" that he should never be president.
Sharing his pipe dream, Kristol hopes that "Donald Trump chokes before 100 million people on Monday night". Thus, loosing the election.
In Kristols mind (who seems to not learn from his previous failing predictions), "[that w]ould be a fitting capstone to this presidential year."
Yet with all his well wishes for a Hillary win at the debate, it seems that when pressed for a Hillary endorsement, Kristol claims that Hillary is not an option, rather he will in fact be voting for "Evan McMullin, the Republican candidate right now [...] - because [he's] a conservative. Kristol explained that he would be voting as such, because he has, "Problems with Obama’s policy and the [the future of the] Supreme Court".
I would like to give Billy the benefit of the doubt, but let's face it, does McMullin have even a remote chance?
In short, the answer is no.
According to recent polls by public polling policy, McMullin is getting 0 percent in Texas, and in his home state Utah, hes not passing Gary Johnson (who gets 10-16 percent), where Trump leads comfortably.
If this is all in fact true, then what is McMullin if not a spoiler candidate. Let's face it, McMullin never had a chance.
This being the case, Kristol is knowingly wasting his vote, literally giving Hillary a free pass to wreak havoc on the supreme court, the middle east, economy and much more.
Some will claim that Kristol has let his ego to cloud his judgment. But is that the way of a conservative? I thought conservatism by default meant taking all variables into consideration and acting accordingly.
With his recent tirades, how Kristol has the gal to call himself a conservative is anyone's guess.
